Wally Moses, one of the mainstays of the Athletics, started playing baseball with the Augusta Club in 1931. After four years of minor-league baseball, he joined the A's in 1935 and every year has hit better than .300, his best average being .345 in 1936. For two successive years he collected over 200 hits, 202 in 1936 and 208 in 1937. For four years of major-league baseball his record shows 703 hits, 236 runs batted in, 527 games for a batting average of .324.

Paul Waner, the elder of the famous Waner brothers, started his professional baseball career with San Francisco in 1923, alternating between first base, and the outfield. He played for them three years, having a batting average of .401 in 1925, before being purchased by the Pittsburgh Pirates, and has been a regular outfielder for them ever since. In 1927, Paul Waner won the National League batting championship with an average of .380. He was also voted the most valuable player in the National League the same year. He led the National League for runs scored in 1928 and 1934, winning the batting crown, in 1934, with an average of .362. He again won the batting championship in 1936, with an average of .373. It can be truly said that Paul Waner is one of the greatest batsmen of all times, since his 13-year major-league record shows 2648 hits in 1940 games for an average of .343.

Became a regular with St. Louis Cards in 1942 after sensational 1941 season with Columbus where he led League in games won, strikeouts and bases on balls and tied for most complete games. Stayed with Cards until 1944 when he entered service. Back with Cards for 1946 season, he had record of 15-6, for a .714 percentage, best in NL. Following season he won 13 and lost 16 and last year his record was 12-16. Traded to Pittsburgh Pirates in spring of 1949.
