Back on the diamond in 1946. Divided year between Charleston and Burlington. With Pirates' Indianapolis farm team, 1948 and part of 1949. Called up by the Pirates in 1949. Appeared in 73 games for them, hitting .322.
One of AL's outstanding pitching prospects. He was with A's at beginning of 1948 season and appeared in 13 games for them, but he wasn't involved in any decisions. He was optioned to Savannah of Sally League and wound up with a record of 9-3. His ERA was 2.73 and he was credited with 93 strikeouts in 112 innings. Started with Tucson in 1941.
