"The Cat" was in 27 games in 1950. Won 8, lost 11. Had an earned run average of 3.81. Began in baseball in 1935. With the Cardinals for a short time in 1940. Then back to the minors for a couple seasons. With the Cards for keeps, beginning with 1943. Won 3 games in the 1946 World Series - a record for lefties. Had a great year, 1948. Won 20, while losing only 7. Had 2.24 E.R.A.



One of the few stars never to play in the minors, the Texas University ace broke into the Reds' lineup in 1946 after being discharged from the Army Air Force. Grady caught the eyes of Big League scouts while playing with army teams. Considered a top-notch fielder, he led all National League 3rd basemen in 1949 in double plays and fielding with a .975 average. A fractured right thumb sidelined him for two months in 1951.



In 5 seasons of Minor League ball, Bill has never failed to hit over .300. At Phoenix in 1947, his first year, he hit .336 in 60 games. He followed this up with .316 and 144 RBI's, and in '49, had a .339 BA and drove in 130 Runs at Bremerton. Bill led the Western League in '50 with .346 at Sioux City and in '53 at Nashville hit .350 and 22 Homers.
