A fun-loving type in the clubhouse, Reyes is all business when he steps to the plate as he proved with a productive 2021. The big Dominican righty belted his 30th homer of the season in just his 103rd game, tantalizing Cleveland fans with the notion this just might be the start of something special.
Jack Barry, infielder of the Philadelphia American League team, was born April 26, 1887, at Meriden, Conn. Barry went to Holy Cross College, Worcester, Mass., where he soon gained prominence as a shortstop, and it was while with that col- lege team that Connie Mack discovered him. He signed up with the Athletics in 1908. For all-around excellence Barry has no superior in the American League.
They called Frank Chance the "Peerless Leader" when he played and managed the Chicago Cubs. Chance's career goes back to 1898 and ended as a player in 1914. With the exception of the years 1913, and 1914, when he was with the New York Americans, he played solely for the Cubs. He managed the Cubs from mid-season, 1905 until he was named manager of the New York Americans in 1913. He resigned in September, 1914, and did not return to the majors until he took over the managership of the Boston Red Sox in 1923. Chance was a great first baseman as well as an excellent, fighting manager. He won three pennants with the Cubs and two World Championships.
