Considered one of the outstanding infielders in baseball today. Consistent hitter who finished 1948 with batting mark of .294, including 12 home runs and 65 runs batted in. One of the sparkplugs of team. Scores plenty of runs - 59 last season and 67 in 1947.

After starting the '52 season at Miwaukee, Johnny moved up to the Braves early in the campaign and ended up leading NL shortstops in Fielding. He hit .331 for Evansville in '47, his 1st year in pro ball. In '48 Johnny hit .324 for Pawtucket and for Milwaukee in '49 and '50 had marks of .286 and .296. He split '51 between the Brewers and Braves and that year set an American Association record for consecutive chances without an error.
