The pitching sensation of the Texas League in 1938 was "Dizzy" Trout, who won 22 games for the Beaumont Club, losing only 6. He allowed only 180 hits in 233 innings of pitching, striking out 155 batters for an earned-run average of 2.16. For this record, one of the most impressive compiled by a minor leaguer, Dizzy was awarded the "most valuable player" award in the Texas League. He came up to the majors this year as a relief pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, along with his teammate and roommate, "Schoolboy" Rowe. Trout has been taking his regular turn at pitching for the Tigers and has won his share of the games.

His performance in 1951 with Milwaukee prompted many observers to name Ernie "the best pitcher to appear in the League in years." He had a 15-4 record and the best earned run average in the league, 2.62. He allowed only 168 hits in 196 innings and he struck out 133, walking only 63. Played with U. S. Marine team during war and had a great record. He saw action on Okinawa.

Shohei continued to mash as the Angels DH in 2022, finishing among the AL top eight in WAR (second), HRS, RBI, OPS, SLG, BBS, XBHS, TBs, Rs and 3Bs. He even executed the second-largest swing-and-miss reduction among MLB qualifiers from 35.0 to 28.1 percent. Ohtani begins '23 with the second-most HRS and RBI of anyone who's had a career of fewer than 2,000 ABs.
