"Babe" Dahlgren, one of the better first basemen of the American League, was charged with the task of taking over the initial sack for the New York Yankees, to replace "Iron Man" Lou Gehrig. He started his major-league career, in 1935, with the Boston Red Sox, and was traded by them to the New York Yankees, with whom he served as a utility infielder until this year, where he is now the regular first baseman of the World Champions.
Javier, just 23, has spent parts of the past three seasons in the Majors, adding left field to his diverse defensive profile in 2016. He's a ferocious swinger who can make parks look small when he connects.
For the first three years of Jerry's career, he never touched a catcher's mask. Instead, the youngster split his duties between first base, third base and in the outfield. Jerry was converted to a catcher in 1961 and he developed into a fine defensive backstop in the White Sox farm chain.
