One of the hardest hitters in the National League. In 1930 lead the league in home run hitting, with 56 round trippers. His batting average for that year was .356 in 155 games. Wilson was born in Elwood City, Pa., in 1900. He began his professional career with Martinsburg in the Blue Ridge League in 1921, batting .356. Two years later, he led the Virginia League in batting. Joined the Cubs in 1926 and in 1932 was traded to Brooklyn. Last year, playing with Brooklyn, hit .297 in 135 games. He is 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 185 pounds. Bats and throws right-handed.
Seven times during Lou's minor league playing days, he batted better than .300. In 1958 in the Midwest League, the outfielder led the circuit with a .365 batting average. That year he also led the division with 35 stolen bases.
