"Sam" Chapman, attained nation-wide fame as an All-American football hero at the Univer- sity of California before turning to professional baseball for a career. He graduated in 1938, and immediately joined the Athletics for whom he has played regularly ever since. A fast man, Chapman has indicated that he will go a long way in the majors. He is a hard. long hitter, and although his batting averages in his first two seasons were not high, he drove in sixty-three and sixty-four runs, respectively. He hit 17 home runs in 1938, and 15 last year. Against St. Louis on May 5th last year, he hit a homer, triple, double and single in five attempts, and poled out two home runs the following day.
Acquired in the Matt Olson trade with the Braves in 2022, Joey quickly climbed the Minor League ladder and made his big-league debut the next season. Estes is athletic and aggressive with an unusual release, and he challenges hitters with a deep arsenal that he locates for ample strikes. He touched Double-A, Triple-A and MLB all in the same year in 2023.
From '45 to '52 Jack tried to make the Majors as a 1st baseman. He switched to pitching and joined the Sox staff in '54. His 14 wins and 4 shutouts in '54 made him a Sox regular.
