Dave came to the Browns from the Yanks in April of '52. He's been in organized ball since '47 when he appeared in 12 games for Denver of the Western League. In '48, '49 and '50 Dave pitched for Kansas City of the American Association. He compiled 14-9, 11-10 and 6-15 records during those seasons, being used in relief a great deal. Dave was in the Service during the 1951 season.
Fielded .957 in 107 games at the hot corner in 1950 - tops for NL players getting into 100 or more games at third base. Played in 119 games in all, hitting .257 and driving in 44 runs. Hit 8 homers. Started with Harrisburg, Inter-State League, 1940. Joined Pittsburgh at end of 1941. Spent 4 seasons in the service. Played at short for Pirates, 1946 and 1947. Traded to Dodgers for 1948.
Christopher Mathewson, pitcher of the New York National League team, was born in Factoryville, Pa., August 12, 1878. He first attracted attention by his work for the Keystone Academy team of Factoryville. In 1897 he played with the Y. M. C. A. team of Scranton, and the next year he pitched for Bucknell College. He became a professional in 1899, as a member of the Honesdale, Pa., team. In 1900 Mathewson joined the Giants.
