Broke into Major League baseball in 1925 after a sensational career as pitcher for Holy Cross College. In 3 years as a college pitcher lost only 2 games in 52 which he pitched. Signed by Detroit in 1925. Sent to Toronto for a year and then brought back. Traded to New York in 1930. After a few games with Toledo was bought by Cincinnati. Remained with Reds until last Winter, then traded to Brooklyn. Last year won 10 and lost. 19, pitching for tail end club. 30 years old, 5 ft. 10 in., weighs 165 lbs. Bats and throws right-handed.



Joe is a steady hitter, and a capable receiver. Was in the service and played ball in Manila. While there he hit two home runs in the big Manila Stadium to have his name placed on the wall alongside such former greats as Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Joe grew up in the "Hill" section of St. Louis, alongside another famous catcher, Yogi Berra. Joe played in the 1946 World Series and batted a spectacular .316.



Won 5, lost 6, in 1950. Won 4 lost 5, in 1949. Began the 1948 season with Los Angeles of the Pacific Coast League. Called up by the Cubs during the campaign. Appeared in 19 games for the major leaguers, and wound up with 5 wins and 6 losses. Started in baseball in 1939. Out of game in 1940. Back again, 1941 to present time, except for 3 years that were spent in military service.
