"Take a combination of a fine fielder, a dependable hitter and a good base-runner and you have the makings of a star baseball player. That's Charley Gehringer of the Detroit Tigers, Michigan born, Michigan bred and a Michigan baseball hero. In 1933 he was the best batting second base- man in the American League with an average of .325. He is 31 years old, stands 5 feet, 11 inches high and weighs 180 pounds. He bats left-handed, but throws right-handed. He began his professional career with the Tigers in 1925, virtually right out of college, and has held down the second base sack ever since."

The southpaw came to the Senators along with Mike Epstein in '67. Frank's top job in 1968 was a two-hit, 11 shutout inning performance vs. the Twins.
