Philadelphia has seen many great stars since the Phillies' first game in 1883. Grover Cleveland Alexander, a baseball immortal, pitched for the Phils from 1911 to 1917, averaging 27 wins per season. Among the great hitters were Cliff Cravath, Cy Williams, Lefty O'Doul and Chuck Klein. Robin Roberts has followed in Alexander's footsteps and Richie Ashburn became the Phils' fifth batting champ in 1955.
