No. 23, Throwing The Fast Ball. Few pitchers in major league history have had Lefty Grove's speed. Lefty is an overhand pitcher who makes the most of his six feet height. Legs, body, arms. wrists and fingers go into throwing the fast ball, and not the least of these is the wrist and fingers which impart the final snap. A good fast ball will have a slight rise or upward curve as it approaches the plate, perhaps less than an inch, that is called the "hop." It causes batsmen to pop the ball into the air.
