Stayed with them until traded to the Red Sox in June 1949. Walt's combined record for the year was an even 6-6. For the weak hitting Senators in 1947, Walt had a 12-16 record. Always had plenty of speed but never became a success as a big leaguer until he got control. Used to be "wild as a hawk". Went up to the Red Sox from the Dakota League in 1922. Traded to New York the next year. Sent to minors for couple of years, then came back and won a regular place. Pitched in three world series for the Yankees. Last year won 16 games and lost nine in American League. Throws right-handed, is six feet, one and one-half inches tall and weighs about 190 pounds.
