Senators gave Red Sox five players in Winter of 1928 to get back Buddy Myer who had been traded to Boston previous year. Has been one of the biggest Senator stars ever since. Born at Ellisville, Miss. 1904, starred for Mississippi A & M College in baseball, football and basketball. Joined the Senators in 1925 after starring for New Orleans in the Southern League. 4 times batted over .300 in the American League. Last year hit .279 in 143 games. Came to Washington as a shortstop, but now plays second base. 5 feet 10 1⁄2 inches tall, 162 lbs. Bats left, throws right.
"Rube" was brought up through the Cubs' farm system and played for them 3 years before being traded to the Dodgers in '51. His best year in the minors was '46 with Davenport, where he led the 3-I League in Hitting with a .354 mark. After batting .331 for Nashville the next season, the Cubs signed him up for Major League duty. He proved a valuable substitute for the injured Roy Campanella in the Dodgers' '51 stretch drive... banging out a homer in the 2nd playoff game.
Julio rose to number two on the midseason prospect list released in 2021 by MLB Pipeline. After crushing Single-A Everett, Julio was promoted to Double-A. In his first 19 games at Arkansas, he slashed .319/.420/.536 with four roundtrippers. He also walked nearly as many times (10) as he struck out (16). He's a key building block for the Mariners.
