Name that player!

Just to prove to skeptics that his great year in 1938 was no flash in the pan, Frank McCormick went out and bettered it last year. In his first full season with the Cincinnati Reds, in '38, McCormick hit .326, got 209 hits and drove in 106 runs. Last year, he batted .332, batted across 128 runs, collected another 209 hits, and hit 18 home runs. He was the league leader in hits the past two years, and added further laurels to his record by breaking the National League mark for double-plays by a first baseman with 153 in 156 games. His fielding average was a brilliant .996. McCormick was one of the few Red players to shine in defeat in the World Series, as he hit an even .400 against the Yankees.

1952 was "Turk's" 2nd season in the Major Leagues. He was an outfielder for semi-pro team in '42 and when the team's pitcher didn't show up, Turk took over and struck out 17. He's been a pitcher since then. A member of the Dodger farm system from '42 until '50, the Cubs drafted him from Montreal in November of '50. Turk had a 17-6 record for Pueblo in '48, 8-1 for Ft. Worth in '49, and 13-9 at Montreal in '50. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge.

Allie is one of the game's great pitchers. His earned run average of 2.07 was best in the league. He also struck out the most men, 160. He tied a major league record in 1951 by pitching two no hit games. Allie began in the major leagues with Cleveland in 1942, was traded to the Yanks in October 1946. In World Series he has won 6 and lost 2.
