MY BIGGEST THRILL IN BASEBALL by Brooks Lawrence. I got my big thrill during our last 1954 series with the Giants. Haddix started the game for us, and was leading 4-2 when he developed arm trouble and was relieved by Brazle. He gave up a single and I was brought in to pitch to Al Dark. I threw him three straight strikes. Hank Thompson pinch hit and was retired on one pitch. My thrill is derived from the fact that I came into the game in a critical situation and retired the side on four pitches.
Growing up in the Bronx, John always dreamed of playing for the Yankees. Now, it seems, his reverie is close to reality. After hitting .305 for Tampa (A) in 1999, he has developed considerable power. In 2001, he ranked second on Norwich (AA) in home runs as part of the team's "Fearsome Threesome" outfield. John also can play a deft first base.
