Jim Tobin started his pitching career with the Bisbee Club, of the Arizona-Texas League in 1925, winning 9 games for them, losing only 2. For the next four seasons he pitched for various minor-league clubs and in 1937 joined the Pittsburgh Club, being used chiefly in relief roles, winning 6 games, losing only 3. In 1938 Tobin pitched a total of 40 games, for Pittsburgh, winning 14, and losing 12, with an earned run average of 3.47. In two years of major-league pitching Jim Tobin has won 20 games, losing 15, striking out 107 batters.
The Athletics re-acquired this switch-hitting outfielder from the Mets' organization last winter. Previously, New York had drafted Tom from the A's. Tom hit a ton in the minors... last year his .319 average tore up the Int. League.
