Jim pitched his way back to the Yankees after being the club's most impressive hurler this past spring. In the 1964 World Series, Jim won two ballgames. The righthander pitched a shutout in his first major league start. Bouton is nicknamed "The Bulldog."

His greatest season was 1952 when he led Southern Association Pitchers with a 24-9 record, a 3.06 ERA and 123 Strikeouts at Chattanooga.
