Began the 1952 season for Yanks. Traded at press time to the Senators. Divided 1951 between the Kansas City Blues and the Yanks. In 42 games for the Blues, batting .263, hitting 9 homers, driving in 26 runs. In 56 games for Yanks. Batted .298, hit 8 homers, drove in 25 runs.
Dei is a fast fielding catcher. His percentage of .992 for 147 games in 1952 was only two points behind Roy Campanella, the league leader. Del can hit a long ball, too. He batted .259 for the Cards, knocking in 65 runs and scoring 43. He's been in baseball since 1941 and with the Cardinals since 1945. Last season's batting average was the best for Del since 1946 when he hit .273.
Teammates call Sheldon."Available" because he's always willing and able to pitch when he's needed. 1941 was his first year in organized ball. He played in the minors until he went into the Army Air Force for 3 years in 1943. The Giants called him up in 1946 after he won 19 and struck out 232 at Jacksonville that year. At Jersey City in '47 he had a 13-3 record when the Giants recalled him. He won 16 in '48, 15 in '49, 13 in '50.
