Mason fanned 45.9% of the big-league hitters he faced after his late-season call-up in 2024. In a relief appearance against Detroit on September 24, Montgomery struck out all six batters who stepped in the box.

He began in baseball in 1946 with the then Boston Braves, and came to the Giants in 1950.
