Charles Albert Comiskey, the Old Roman, President and owner of the Chicago American League Club, was born in Chicago, August 15, 1858. He began his baseball. career in 1878 with the Dubuque, Iowa, team. In 1882 he joined the St. Louis Browns, and in 1883 was made manager of the team. He took charge of the Players' League Club in Chicago in 1890. He then returned to St. Louis in 1891, and in 1892 went to Cincinnati, where he managed the Reds until 1895. In 1900 he established the Chicago White Sox of the American League.



Hit .260 in 108 games for the Yanks in 1950. Batted in 40 runs. Hit .249 in 1949. Billy was in 113 games that year, mostly at third, although he did appear in 21 games at first. During the 1947 World Series, 3 of Billy's 7 hits were triples. Led American League third basemen in 1943 in putouts and assists, and tied for making the most double plays. Spent 2 years with the armed forces.
