Making a valiant effort to gain himself a regular berth in the New York Yankee outfield is young Tommy Henrich. This is Henrich's fourth season with the World Champions. He sold himself to them as a free agent at the close of the 1936 season. Last season, in 99 games, Tommy hit .277, seven points above his previous season's average, drove across 57 runs, and scored 64 himself. He is an excellent fielder, compiling an average of .991. Henrich's biggest feat since joining the Yanks was hitting five home runs in three consecutive games, in 1938.
Although Ferris hit over .300 only twice in his Major League career, he won the A.L. Batting Title both times in 1951-52 with .344 and .327.
