Name that player!

At one time one of the most feared hitters in American league. Finished 1948 with .276 mark after very bad start in which he went to bat during a 7-game stretch 26 times without a hit. Originally paid $55,000 bonus to sign with Tigers after great career with University of Michigan. Paced Tigers to pennant in 1940. Fair fielding outfielder.

Still rated as one of the most likely to succeed, Tom will be given another opportunity to win the Angels' catching job this year. Known for his good hands and quick thinking, Tom received his baptism under fire by catching a one-hitter in his first game.

"Although relatively young in professional base- ball, Floyd Vaughan already ranks among the leading batters of the National League and in 1933 scored the most triples of any player in that league. He was born in Clifty, Ark., in 1912. He entered professional baseball in 1931 with the Wichita club where the Pirate scouts located him and 1932 found him in regular position as short- stop. He is a good fielder and a good batter, hit- ting consistently over .300. He bats left-handed but throws right-handed. Is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 175 pounds."
