"Sad Sam" came to the Indians from San Diego in September of '51 after he had led the Pacific Coast League in Strikeouts and Complete Games. 5 of his 13 losses in '51 were by 1 run. Sam has been in organized baseball since '50 when he broke in with Wilkes Barre of the Eastern League. He had a 17-8 record in his rookie season with 169 Strikeouts in 219 innings pitched, winding up with a 2.71 ERA.
The Cubs gave up two players to acquire Bob from Cards before the 1965 season opened. Bob is famous for his side-saddle windup.
