Sid is really a product of New York "sand lots" where he was first observed by a Giant scout, playing amateur ball in Brooklyn. Four years in the minors brought him to the Polo Grounds. His 1st year in organized baseball saw him hit .352. He served two years in the Coast Guard during the war. He has played third base during most of his career. He is a consistent hitter.
Connie completed a good percentage of the games he started and had the 9th best Earped Run Average in the AL in '52. He started pitching in organized ball with Havana in 47. At lavane he had a terrific years in a row winning a total of 70 ball games, while losing only 25. The best ERA he had during those 3 years was 1.53. He had a 6-10 record for the Senators in '50 and an 11-9 record in '51.
"Country" is the Cardinal's Captain and has been a Cardinal longer than any other player on the team. He broke in with the Cards in '38 after leading the American Association in batting with .382 in 1937. In his 11 full seasons in the majors, he's hit over .300 seven times, and led the League in Doubles in 1939 with 52. A World War II veteran, Enos was chosen on the Major League All-Star Team in 1942 and 1946.
