It is not often that a pitcher, sent back to the minors, makes a comeback six years later. That is the case with Pinky Shoffner, a big southpaw with a nice curve ball and a good change of pace. Shoffner, after three dismal years with Cleveland in 1929, '30 and 31. was sent back to the minors and brought back again by the Boston Bees in 1937. He pitched fair ball for the Bees and when given his release in August last year, was claimed on waivers by the Cincinnati Reds. Shoffner turned in some splendid relief work for the Reds in their gruelling battle for the pennant with the St. Louis Cardinals. The veteran pitcher goes in for reading and ice skating as well as hunting and fishing.
