Defensively and offensively, "Elbie" Fletcher was one of the most valuable members cf "Frankie" Frisch's Pittsburgh Pirate crew last year. Second only to Frank McCormick in fielding, the Pirate first-sacker was one of the timeliest hitters in the league as well, batting across 104 runs on only 139 hits, including 16 four-baggers. Fletcher also had the distinction of getting more bases-on-balls than any other National leaguer, drawing 119 walks.
Many baseball experts consider Roy to be the finest fielding shortstop in baseball. A native Texan, McMillan is a product of the Cincinnati farm system. He played all 154 games with the Redlegs in 1952 and led the league in assists with 495, repeating as the league's best last year with 519.
