Before "Nick" started his pro ball career, he pitched for Auburn Institute. He started in Class A ball with Scranton in 1948, winning 11 and losing 5 with a 2.52 ERA. In '49 at Birmingham, he had a 14-7 record. Willard joined the Red Sox in the middle of the 1950 season after posting an 11-2 record and fanning 97 at Louisville in 13 games. With the Sox in '50, he won 8 against 6 losses. The A's and Indians have yet to beat him - he's whipped the A's 4 times and the Indians 3 times.
Forest L. Cady, catcher of the Boston American League team, was born at Bishop Hill, Ill., September 20, 1887. His first engagement was with the Bishop Hill team of the Henry County League in 1906. The following year he played with Monmouth. In 1908 he was with Indianapolis of American Association until June, finishing with Kewanee and Ottumwa. That fall he was drafted by Evansville, of Central League. He played with Evans- ville until Newark, of International League, drafted him in 1910. The next year Boston Americans purchased him.
The Braves' sensational rookie of 1964 blossomed into one of the league's biggest stars last season. Rico gave his fans a preview of the '65 campaign during spring training when he compiled a .408 batting mark. He also led the clubs in home runs and RBIs.
