Manuel had not pitched at a level higher than Class A when 2006 began, but after posting a combined 0.99 ERA in Double-A and Triple-A in the early part of the season, he made his Major League debut on July 28. The slender Panamanian with the mid-90s fastball proved effective in the Rockies pen with a 3.62 ERA in his 35 1/3 innings pitched.
Ken began in OB in 1935 with McKeesport in Pennsylvania State League and had a 10-11 record. The next season with Jeanette he won 20 while losing 8. 1939 was his first full season in the majors, and he wound up with a 1-1 record for Pirates. In 1941 his record was 11-11. Early in 1947 season he was sold to Phillies. Last year his record was 6-11.
A speedy N. Y. Giant fly-chaser, Whitey stands 6'1" and weighs 190. Last year he batted at a .295 clip.
