Del is a home town boy who has more than made good in his local bailiwick. Except for his first season in baseball, Del has played for no other team than the Phils. Began in 1943 with Trenton and batted a wonderful .346. Then he went into service. When he was discharged, he came to the Phils - this was in 1946 - and there he has remained. He hit .285 in 1953 and had 22 doubles, 3 triples and 29 home runs among his 165 hits. He batted in 125 runs.
Last season was Maury's first in the uniform of the Washington Senators, and it was an off season for him. He appeared in 30 games, winning 7 and losing 15. However, the season prior to that is a better indication of what he can do on the mound. With the Boston Red Sox he appeared in 32 games, winning 18 and losing 10. He's been in baseball since 1945, when he had a 2-5 record for Scranton of the Eastern League. He first came to the majors with the Red Sox in 1948. He finished the year with Scranton. Returned at the end of 1949 to stick.
