Murry is one of the veterans of baseball. With the Phillies in 1954 he appeared in 40 games, winning 10 and losing 20. He worked 226 innings and his earned run average was 3.78. In 1951 Murray was a 20 game winner for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He began in organized ball in 1937 and first came to the majors at the end of the 1939 season with the Cardinals. He's a control pitcher.
Senators gave Red Sox five players in Winter of 1928 to get back Buddy Myer who had been traded to Boston previous year. Has been one of the biggest Senator stars ever since. Born at Ellisville, Miss. 1904, starred for Mississippi A & M College in baseball, football and basketball. Joined the Senators in 1925 after starring for New Orleans in the Southern League. 4 times batted over .300 in the American League. Last year hit .279 in 143 games. Came to Washington as a shortstop, but now plays second base. 5 feet 10 1⁄2 inches tall, 162 lbs. Bats left, throws right.
Big Steve moved to Chicago during the '54 season to pinch hit as well as play the initial sack. A surehanded fielder, he led the National League 1st Basemen in Putouts and Assists in '53. Steve first gained recognition when he hit .388 for Winston-Salem in '47. The following year he topped the Piedmont League with a .333 B.A. and was the big R.B.I. man at Rochester in '49.
