Played in 52 games for the Senators in 1951. Batted .206. His 36 hits were good for 42 bases. He drove in 15 runs. Began in baseball in 1941 with Trenton. First played in majors (7 games) for the Giants in 1946. Returned to minors (Jersey City, Seattle). Drafted by Senators.

Experts generally agree Richards is one of baseball's shrewdest leaders. He took over the second-division White Sox in 1951 and boosted them to fourth. They have finished third the past two seasons. Richards gets fullest effort particularly from pitchers. He was a great defensive catcher with the Giants and Tigers in his playing days.

Max worked in 33 games for the Pirates during the course of the 1954 season, winning 9 and losing 18. It was a record that could have been reversed with a better hitting team to back up a pitcher. Max worked 208 innings and gave up 216 hits. He walked 78 men and struck out a like number. He's been in organized ball a long time - since 1938. He belonged to the Cardinals, although he never pitched for them in the majors. The Cubs, in 1949, were his first major league team. He also pitched for the Braves.
