Although Al appeared in 47 games for the Indians in 1953, 1954 was his first full season in the majors. He had 135 hits, which included 29 doubles, 6 triples and 11 homers. He drove in 50 runs and scored 101. He began in 1948 with Wilkes-Barre, spending two seasons with them. Although new to the major leagues this year, Lou Chiozza of the Philadelphia Nationals, can field with any of the veter- ans. By his knack of playing the ball for its good bounce, he makes many a hard grounder look easy. Never rush at the ball headon and take your chance on getting it at the top of bounce. You will save your- self many an error by studying the ball as it approaches and either moving up a few steps or back to get it between hops. This of course does not apply to slow rollers and a fast running hitter. Then you have to roar in and take your chances with a bad hop, to get the ball over with an underhand snap of the wrist.
