Frank Frisch, who used to manage the Cubs, always said that Roy looked like a movie star until he gets on the field, when he looks like a good shortstop. He began in baseball in 1944 with Los Angeles. Appeared in 61 games, and was in service for all of 1945. Spent 1946 with LA, Davenport and Shelby. Roy was with Des Moines in 1947 and joined the Cubs in 1948. He broke his leg sliding into third in 1951 and was out of the game from April until July 1.
