Bill led regular A.L. 1st Basemen in Fielding last season. In '48 at Utica, he tied for the top Fielding mark among 1st Basemen with .985. He also paced the International League in Putouts twice, 1,355 at Toronto in '49 and 1,285 at Baltimore in '51. Bill broke into pro ball with Americus (Ga.) in '46 and hit .328 with 34 Doubles and 18 Triples.Billy's wisecracks on the bench are great for relieving tension when his team is in a tight spot! His teammates call him Cauliflower McPug, because of his imitation of a punch-drunk boxer!



The husky backstop is recognized as one of the great fielding catchers of all time. He is also a powerful hitter as his Home Run record will attest. "Campy" was up among the League's batting leaders during the 1st part of the '52 campaign but injuries slowed him up. He finished 2nd on the Dodgers in HR's and RBI's in '52. In '51 he hit .325, slammed 33 HR's and was the Most Valuable Player in the National League. Roy was on every All-Star team since '49.



Led Florida State League first basemen with 1114 Putouts, 51 Assists, 1165 Chances Accepted and 113 Double Plays at Miami during the course of '74 season.
