Zappe transferred to Western Kentucky for a chance to throw the ball, and the Victoria, Texas, product took advantage of it. In the Hilltoppers' all-field attacking air scheme, he broke the FBS records for yards and TD passes in a season. "It's been the best decision of my life," the signal-caller said.

Don was a hero on the Dartmouth campus because of his sensational play on the gridiron field. The New England youth was a high school star in football and basketball and a teammate of the Patriots' Art Graham, too. A rough, tough linebacker, Don made every collegiate All-East club. Labeled as a can't-miss prospect, Don had a great rookie campaign with Boston last year.

Including the postseason, Brady enters the 2007 campaign with an almost incomprehensible record of 82-26 as a starting quarterback. He also led the NFL in passing yards in 2005.

Back to the Front! Patriots card back du jour...

Tom Brady
He played in the shadow of Brian Griese at Michigan and appeared destined for a similar role behind Drew Bledsoe in New England, as Tom arrived at the 2001 training camp as the third QB on the depth chart. Yet by the time the season ended, he was one of the top passers in the NFL. Taking over for an injured Bledsoe early in the year, Brady's quick feet and accurate arm led the Pats to Super Bowl XXXVI. He then was named the game's Most Valuable Player after leading his charges to a game-winning drive (with no time-outs) in the final minute.
