Redskins Card of the Day

Jim Podoley
Newcomer Jim didn't stop for introductions on his way through the line last season. He just kept barrelling his way for first downs and headlines. It was Jim's running and pass-catching which helped to make the 'Skins a lot stronger.

Name that player!

"Pug” Rentner was one of the finest broken field runners of his day at Northwestern and still is with the Boston Redskins. Running in the open field is a test of ability to change direction at top speed, shifting feet at lightning speed. There are many methods of learning the trick. One is to place a series of empty barrels or boxes about three yards distance, weaving in and out between them while going at top speed. The other tricks, such as stiff arm, body pivot, high knee action, quick stop and start etc, will come as the player grows more practiced. But the quick-step, fast shifting of the feet and skill of changing direction is the foundation of all good broken field running. Pug Rentner, Northwestern University, All American, 1932 - 1933. 6 ft., 195 lbs.

A former fighting Marine, Pete is a tower of power in the Redskin defense. Big and bullish, he can scramble enemy interference, stop runners cold in their tracks and pounce on passers with his powerful charging. Originally with the Chicago Cards in '52 and '53, Pete came to the Skins in '54, and has been a starting lineman ever since.

Among NFL's top-10 rushers.

Jim Schrader
A big man for a big job, Jim is one of the most valuable Redskin players. He thrives on the rough and tumble brand of football and usually gives more than he receives.
