Glenn Presnell
"Squeezing" the ball is one of the first lessons backfield players must master. Note the way Glenn Presnell of the Detroit Lions has the ball cradled in the hollow of his arm, the hand making a basket over the end and the oval pressed tightly against his ribs. Tendency among young players is to let the ball dangle loosely when about to be tackled and causing a fumble with the tacklers shock. A back must learn instinctively to hug the leather hard at the moment of impact. Many a fine open field run has been spoiled because the carrier fumbles into the hands of the other team and offsets his long gain. "Hug that ball." In the process, Stafford became the second fastest to 10,000 career passing yards, finishing just one game behind Kurt Warner, who did it in 36 contests.
