George was drafted 6th in '62 although he missed his senior year. He played at tight end as a rookie, making the All-Rookie team. He was shifted to defense the next year and has become a mainstay in the strong Dallas rush defense.
The Cowboys clinched second place in the Eastern Conference by beating the Giants twice in '65. This gave them the chance to perform in the Playoff Bowl, in Miami, against the Colts. Dallas went down to a 35 to 3 defeat in the game.
The great expectations for him in pro football have come true in his first 2 seasons with the Cowboys. As a rookie in 1975 he played on and behind the club's defensive line and was second only to Harvey Martin in quarterback traps with 7, recovered 2 enemy fumbles and made numerous big plays in key game situations. He's Cowboys' heir to Lee Roy Jordan's middle linebacker position. He's fundamentally sound with great quickness, balance, toughness, ability, desire and smartness on football field.
