Only college football was on freshman team at Ohio State. But in first pro season with Browns led All-American Conference in scoring with 84 points. Nicknamed "The Toe" for kicking proficiency. Kicked 53-yard field goal in 1948 against Brooklyn. A superduper place kicker. Did military service in Okinawa, Hawaii, and Philippines.

Name that player!

Returned 4 kickoffs for 53 yards in 1950. Recovered four of opponents' fumbles. Played fullback in freshman year at Ohio State. Spent 312 years in Army Air Force. Played center on return to college for sophomore season. Turned pro in 1947. Returned to his studies at end of each grid campaign until he got degree. Switched back to fullback in pro ball. Soon became outstanding linebacker.



In the 1950 season, Otto took second place among the National Football League's leading passers. He chalked up an average gain of 7.68 yards per pass attempted. He threw 253, and completed 137 for 1,943 yards. He tossed 14 TD passes. An All-American performer in football and basketball at Northwestern. With the Browns since 1946. Served as a flyer in Navy. Plays piano, violin, cornet.



LA's 28th '56 pick, John was the season's surprise. He grabbed a regular guard spot, switched to center and made All-Rookie team. He came to the Browns in '60.

Mac Speedie
Overcame a childhood leg ailment to become one of the game's greatest ends. Starred in football and hurdies at the University of Utah. In 4 pro years for the Cleveland Browns, became lifetime AAFC leader in pass receiving with 211 caught for 3,551 yards and 24 touchdowns. Entered Army, March, 1942. Came out, 1st lieutenant, June, 1946.
