Jets Card of the Day

Dainard Paulson
Dainard proved his worth quickly to the New York Jets' coaches. Joining the club as a rookie in 1961, he adapted himself so quickly that before the year was over Dainard was tabbed "the best defensive back on the squad." At Oregon State Dainard played tailback in the single wing system. Also a top punter, he averaged 45.5 yards a kick at college. Dainard is quiet but he always seems to do his work efficiently.

Name that player!

For the second straight year, George led the Jets in pass receptions. In '67 his 75 catches topped the American Football League.

The Jets coached the Senior Bowl in 1979 and needed to fill a roster spot. They asked one of their scouts for recommendations, and one stuck out. "Loaded with enthusiasm and ready to jump on a plane immediately," Connie Carberg said. "It was Mark Gastineau. I didn't know he'd be great, but loved his attitude and his speed on film." Five-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time first team All-Pro. Established a then-NFL record with 22 sacks in 1984. Became nationally famous for celebratory "sack dance".

Looking on his career at lowa State, Hall said, "It's kind of crazy how fast it went." Defenders in the Big 12 might have thought the same thing about him. The rusher scooted past them awfully fast en route to the second-most yards by a Cyclone and an FBS-record 24 straight games with a touchdown.
