Penn State coach Rip Engle says of Richie, "Lucas is the greatest player I have ever seen," and he has earned this fine tribute. He broke practically every record at Penn State excelling in passing, running, defensive play, punting, an all-around outstanding quarterback. As a result of his 1959 season, Richie appeared on practically everybody's All-America first team selection, and it is no wonder he was the most sought after college player in the country.
Just to show you how important a good kicker is to a club, Pete was responsible for 25% of the Buffalo team's scoring in 1964. The sure-toed Bill led Buffalo in total points. Pete kicked 45 extra points in 46 attempts and was 19 for 28 in field goal attempts.
Cook creates magic with the ball in his hands, vanishing behind his linemen and popping into the open before darting past tacklers with a lightning-quick pair of feet. The 5-foot-11 scatback then turns on his otherworldly afterburners, speeding into the end zone and pointing toward the Bulldogs' faithful in celebration.
