Coached Hornets to first playoff series victory by one of the four recent expansion teams, beating Boston 3-1 in the first round of the 1993 NBA Playoffs... Charlotte had the NBA's second-highest scoring average in 1992-93 with (110.1 ppg)... Was the Hornets' Vice President of Basketball Operations prior to being named head coach in 1991... Played nine seasons with Philadelphia, San Antonio, Utah and Dallas.

Revitalizing the Charlotte Hornets in 1994-95 was the return to NBA All-Star form of the team's two < marquee players, Alonzo Mourning and Larry Johnson. Both plagued by injuries in the 1993-94 season, Mourning and Johnson came back to play in the 1995 All-Star Game in Phoenix and also lead the Hornets to the 1995 NBA Playoffs. Mourning in particular, had a super season. The 6-10 center recorded an NBA career-high 1,643 points to go along with team-highs of 761 rebounds, 225 blocked shots and a .519 field goal shooting percentage.

After donning a deuce on his jersey during his first two seasons, Ball announced he would switch to the No. 1 starting in 2022-23. "I've just never been [No. 2]," he said. "It's weird out there for real. It just don't feel like you are playing. I don't know who this is."

Gordon Hayward
With LaMelo Ball, Miles Bridges, Devonte Graham and a few others, the Hornets are overflowing with young talent. Looking to match that with a reliable veteran, they picked up Hayward, who didn't disappoint. In his first season there (2020-21), the All-Star shot 47.3 percent from the field.
