As a rookie, his performance lifted the Bucks from the cellar to 2nd place in the Eastern Division. He was a unanimous choice as Rookie of the Year, was named to the Eastern Division All-Star team and was a second team choice All-Pro and All-Defensive. He made the NBA All-Rookie team.
Dick was acquired from Phoenix prior to the 1968-69 season and that year was the Bucks' regular center. As a junior at Murray State, Dick led the nation in rebounding, averaging 21.8 per game. He ranked fifth nationally as a senior with a 17.8 average and set school and Ohio Valley Conference career records in total rebounds and rebound average. He had 1,292 rebounds in 71 games, averaging 18.2.
