He joined the Bulls after leading Indiana to the 1976 NCAA Championship and starring for U.S. Gold Medal winners in the Olympics in Montreal.

B. J. finished his college career as lowa's all-time leader in assists (517) as well as being third all-time in steals (178) and fourth in points (1,705). He also set an lowa record with 11 three-point field goals in one game, and managed to shoot 50% from three-point range in his first year in the pros. He also shot just under 90% from the free-throw line.
