Name that player!

Defense is Payton's battleground. Intense and menacing, the '95-96 NBA Defensive Player of the Year and steals leader (2.9/G) picked an opponent's pocket at least once in a remarkable 79 of 81 games, with five or more steals in ten of them.

Don did something in 1975-76 that no one had ever done before in the NBA. He won the league steals and assists titles in the same season, a truly remarkable achievement. "Slick" is the only Supersonic to be named to the NBA All-Defensive Team.

Traded to the Seattle SuperSonics by Indiana for Derrick Mckey and Gerald Paddio on 11/1/93... Only NBA player to rank in top 25 in scoring (19.1 ppg), rebounding (9.5 pg) and assists (6.0 apg) in the 1992-93 season... Averaged 19.5 ppg and 7.3 apg in four 1993 NBA Playoff Games against the New York Knicks... NBA Sixth Man Award winner in both 1990-91 and 1991-92 seasons.

Seattle SuperSonics, Gary Payton
Seattle's 25 NBA seasons have been filled with highlights and colorful names. Players such as Donald "Slick" Watts, Marvin "The Human Eraser" Webster and "Downtown" Freddie Brown have left their marks on the franchise. Everything came together for the team in a spectacular 1978-79 season that ended with the NBA Championship. DID YOU KNOW? Seattle and Philadelphia combined to score an NBA-low four points in overtime February 16, 1990. On February 15, 1974, the SuperSonics forced the most turnovers ever in an NBA game as the Lakers coughed the ball up 43 times. Seattle's longest win streak ever is 12 games (1982-83). SCORECARD. The Sonics-Suns game on January 5, 1986, was rescheduled because the roof was leaking, marking the first time ever an NBA game was 'postponed due to rain.'
