"DESERT HEAT” How acquired: Obtained from Cleveland on 2/25/88 with Mark West, Tyrone Corbin and draft picks for Larry Nance, Mike Sanders and a draft pick. In just four full seasons with Phoenix, Kevin Johnson has demonstrated that he is the heart and soul of the Suns. In fact, in a Playoff game against Portland in 1991-92, Johnson, sensing his team's desperation, scored 18 straight points at one juncture in the second half. "KJ" finished the season second in the NBA in assists while averaging 19.3 points per game. Johnson has been solid ever since his acquisition. In his first season with Phoenix, Kevin was named the 1989 NBA Most Improved Player as he set five club records. On October 21, 1992, Johnson will have his jersey retired by the University of California, where KJ is Cal's all-time leader in scoring, assists and steals. "To have my jersey retired is extremely humbling," Johnson said. "KJ" has been humbling opposing point guards for four seasons, with no sign of letting up. This "Desert Heat" star should turn the temperature even higher on opponents in 1992-93 with new teammate Charles Barkley.

Has played in 419 straight games, second to A.C. Green's 660 among active streaks... Had 10 games with double figures in rebounds in 1992-93... Suns' second-leading rebounder in 1992-93 (5.6 rpg).

Kyle was drafted as a future by the Suns in 1979. He can run an offense and sees the court very well. Kyle is considered a smart player as well as an excellent passer and outside shooter. He was Kentucky's MVP in 1980 as well as being Consensus All-American.

Back to the Front! Suns card back du jour...

Cedric Ceballos
One of eight players ever to record a perfect score of 50 in the NBA SlamDunk Championship, Cedric Ceballos entered the 1993 affair attempting to become just the second player ever to win back-to-back slam-dunk titles. He recovered from missing his first dunk, and with a 45.1 on his final dunk of the opening round, Ceballos earned a berth in the finals. He couldn't recover when he missed the first dunk of the finals, however, and ended up taking third place overall in the event.
