Red Sox Card of the Day

Jim Lonborg
In his sophomore year with the Red Sox in 1966, Jim worked in 45 ballgames and topped the Boston staff with 131 strikeouts. The 24-year-old righthander has shown steady improvement in his first two big league seasons and the front office believes Jim could be the club's next twenty-game winner. When his pitches are low, he's one of the game's toughest men to hit. Jim only appeared in 31 contests in the minors!

Name that player!

Jarren provided the Red Sox an early peek at his newfound power in 2021 by swatting a homer against Toronto in his third big-league game on July 19. At Triple-A, the speedy outfielder went 16-for-19 on steals, and booked his team's second-highest OPS.

Johnny is one of the more fan-friendly and accessible ballplayers. In 2002, he was the winner of the first "30th Man" vote, in which fans made the last pick for the All-Star Game roster.

Dave possesses one of the finest curveballs in the league and with his control continually improving, it's just a matter of time before he becomes one of the circuit's top winners. The big right-hander was a winning pitcher in Triple-A competition just two years after hurling high school ball. Throughout the 1965 campaign, Dave battled teammate Earl Wilson for the club strikeout lead.

Jim Lonborg
The Boston Red Sox mound corps received an unexpected shot in the arm last year when rookie Jim Lonborg proved he had the makings of a big league winner. The strong righthander has a jumping fastball, a sharp curveball and good control. In 1965, the twenty-two year old hurler was third on the Bosox staff in complete games. A natural born athlete, Jim chose baseball after impressing as a basketball player for his California high school.
